Confessional.....How I Almost Gave My Mother A Heart Attack

I confess......

When I was a teenager, I was a drama queen. Actually, make that QUEEN. The kind-of drama that surrounded me deserves nothing but all caps. I'm glad that I don't have to parent a child like myself. My poor parents...

Anyway, a random memory popped in my head today...for no apparent reason. And it made me laugh. Ok, actually, it made me think that my parents should have beat me....THEN it made me laugh bc I was an out-of-control drama QUEEN.

I remember being about 13 years old. It had snowed quite a bit. My best friend was at the house and my dad was taking us to her house (remember being a teenage girl meant that you could never be apart from your bff). Anyway, my mom was sitting at the dining room table with one of her friends. I said goodbye to her and my bf and I followed my dad out the front door. There was a lot of snow and ice on the front porch. One second I was looking at my dad's back while he was walking in front of me and the next thing I know I see arms and legs in the air and my dad is laying out in the front yard on his back. Now, the natural course of action would have been to walk off the porch and check on my dad. BUT as a teenage drama QUEEN, I turned around and ran inside to where my mom was sitting and announced "daddy is dead". Yep, those 3 horrific words. My mom and her friend both gasped and jumped up from the table and went running towards the door. I can not even begin to describe the panic on my mother's face. Luckily, my bf was not a drama queen and told my mom that my dad was not dead but had just slipped off the front porch and landed in the yard. By the time my mom reached the door, my dad was standing up and I remember her turning around and looking at me as though she was thinking, "seriously?" I don't remember either of my parents fussing at me for proclaiming that my dad had died....although I definitely deserved it.

I find it amusing that now I have friends with teenage daughters that are drama queens, and I'm the one they come to asking for advice. Only it's not parenting advice...it's "why on earth does my child act this way" advice. On that one subject, I am the expert! All hail the QUEEN!

Confessional.....Holding A Nasty Grudge

I confess.......

Yeah, I'm a grown woman.  And I can still hold a nasty grude like a teenage girl.

I had an ugly squabble with an acquaintance a few years ago.  I pass her house twice a day going to and from work.  And every chance I get I throw trash in her yard.  Sometimes a syrofoam cup, sometimes a can, sometimes just a straw wrapper.  Childish AND bad for the environment.  She doesn't know I'm littering in her yard.  So why do I do it?  I have no idea....but it sure makes me feel better.
